American Sociological AssociationASA is a membership-based organization governed by a rotating body of elected officers and council members, who are supported by a full-time professional executive staff run by the ASA Executive Officer. ASA works to stimulate and improve research, instruction, and discussion, and to encourage cooperative relations among persons engaged in the scientific study of society, be it through advocacy, the publishing of academic journals related to sociology, pedagogical development, along with ensuring a public understanding of sociology and its research.
